From the Capital Beltway (495):
Take the River Road (Rt. 190) Exit towards Potomac, turn left on River Road; Behnke’s is approx. 3 miles on the right.In Potomac:
Only ½ mile south of Potomac Village on the left-hand side of River Road.

In 1998 Behnke Nurseries bought Potomac Valley Nursery, on River Road, near Potomac, Maryland. This allowed us to better serve our customers in the western Maryland suburbs, Northwest Washington, DC, and Virginia.

A large orchard in the 1800’s, the property had been subdivided until only a 6 acre parcel remained. This parcel had been operated as a garden for many years. When Behnke’s purchased the site, we invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair and upgrade the facility, while maintaining the original “footprint”.

Customers find that our garden center has an unusally good selection, thanks to our extensive growing facilities in Lothian, MD. Those accustomed to the sometimes overwhelming size of our Beltsville Garden Center will enjoy the more intimate shopping experience at Potomac. Our staff creates interesting displays, often mixing annuals and perennials to give you ideas for new color and textural combinations. The houseplant and blooming gifts department always has fresh, attractive plants on display–we are the perfect “fast stop” when you need an orchid or other plant as a hostess gift.
